Week 5 Writings – Love Letters ♥️

They weren’t “cringy” but sincere…

When was the last time have you written or have you heard of someone writing a love letter, and waiting patiently to receive one back? It sounds very outdated, doesn’t it? But perhaps for the first time, civilization did not benefit society, and the technology and advancement it brought only conditioned us to become less patient, and drained our expression away.

Back in the ’90s, when men went to war and exchanged letters with their lovers until their service ended, divorce only occurred among 1.2https://robslink.com/SAS/democd80/us_divorce_and_marriage.htm% of married couples, while in the current world, it is more than 50%, at least in the U.S.A.

Love letters and marriage success rate might not be the only correlation, but they definitely leave a remarkable impact on the long-lasting relationships they establish.

This can be seen by reading the love letters that were once written in the past where lovers expressed their longing to others, and heard by dramatic podcasts where individuals from the presence read the old letters to the world, shocking it with the language that is no longer used today despite its simplicity, and the ability to be expressive without being considered “cringe” but instead a lady and a gentleman.

It was back when expression was not feared whether you were a male or a female, and when people maintained their loyalty to each other despite the normalized distance due to wars.

Not only were love letters a symbol of loyalty and patience but also luck, as in some cases, they brought people together who had never met each other before. In their letters, looks were humbly discussed, and love was established through promising words, proving that love does not have to involve physical attraction, instead it creates it.

This was all back when lovers waited patiently for the other’s letters to deliver, and felt the need to clarify which letter they were responding to by including some context. People then waited months to receive a letter from their significant other, and a lot of times, they received multiple letters at once before their corresponding letter had arrived at the other’s place.

It was all back when distance didn’t cause a loss of hope or a loss of interest, at least much less than distance does people apart now.

Back when life was simpler and require more patience and effort, promises were kept, and real love was found and believed in, unlike when we question its reality now.
