Week 12 – Open Letters/ Juvenile Books

This week, we looked at two unique epistolary formats, open letters and children’s books. One targeted for adult audience and another for younger audience, and I hate to say that I was a fan of the children’s books.

I find it facetious that I enjoyed reading the book The Day the Crayons Quit as if I were reading it at the age of five, and I do believe that it is for the best for every adult to read it, as it will give them a sense of juvenile joy once again.

Conversely, Letters to a Young Writer had a different tone, a forceful one that remarked on the importance of being a risky writer. I enjoyed the quotes each chapter began with and rather found it a unique and interpretive onset for a chapter.

I was a huge fan of the metaphorical descriptions the author used to convey his messages about creative writing, and was fascinated by how he creatively told the readers to be creative when writing by showing and not telling.
